Upon Further Reflection

Time has passed since my last post. Have you tried any strategies for settling? For putting up with the daily aggravations? Other than the obvious self destructive ones like overeating or dranking too much? Life's so full of twists and turns and finding the right path is hard. I am eager to hear your thoughts on how to stay the course, friends.

Working Through It

I hope that you have a job you love. But chances are that you do not. So we should talk about how to deal with the day to day grind of working in a job/career that isn't what you would have chosen. Remembering that you need the money to support your family is helpful, but it doesn't always carry the day, does it? Let me suggest getting into what you like to do as a hobby. Frustrated would be writers can blog. Frustrated would be actors can stage readings at home with friends. Frustrated would be doctors are probably out of luck because amateurs aren't allowed to perform surgery or prescribe drugs, and frustrated would be lawyers should have their heads examined by frustrated would be psychiatrists. You get my point, though, right?

Settled Down

I think that different people have different expectations, even as children, of their lives. I am a person with very definite goals, the most important of which I have met, which were marrying and having children. Once I decided that those two things were the most important, then other choices fell away and settling for less than perfect career or social options became not only necessary but preferable, as the family's needs grew and came first always. We are always forced to prioritize. I put my children and husband first. Simple (and complicated) as that.

Choices

Even when I feel hemmed in by life, I make choices all day every day. Which street to take to work, what top with what pants, music or news on the radio (mostly news). The choices help me feel more in control of my life. I may not be able to change the big things in my life, but I can take pleasure in controlling the little decisions. Sometimes making all the decisions in a day feels overwhelming, particularly when I don't like my choices. But I make the decisions and move on to the next one and sleep well at night. I hope that you can find solace in your choices large and small that propel your days.

Living in the present

The name of the blog reflects my life philosophy. Ultimately, settling for what works in life is better than being miserable striving for what is not possible. We are not entitled to 24-7 happiness, but we are obliged to make something out of life on this planet. So I am simply finding the best aspects of the life I have instead of pining for another one. Settlement at its best. Let me know if you're living the same way.
